Notifications and the inbox

RealClear has two different notification surfaces: the in-app inbox, which records events for the workspace, and email, which is optional and configurable. Turning off an email does not make an event vanish from the workspace. It simply stops it arriving in your inbox at 06:00 while you are trying to drink coffee like a human being.

The in-app inbox is the record

The in-app inbox receives monitoring activity for the workspace regardless of your email settings. Use it when you need the complete operational trail rather than whichever subset of messages you elected to receive. For a monitoring item, open the linked site or notice and inspect the cited public record before deciding what changes.

Monitoring digest email

In Settings → Account → Notifications, choose one of these digest frequencies:
  • Off — no monitoring digest email; use the in-app inbox instead.
  • Daily — one morning email summarising overnight public-source notices.
  • Weekly — one weekly email summarising monitoring activity.
The daily delivery hour is set in UTC for the shared workspace. It applies only when Daily is selected. Choose a UTC hour that matches the team’s actual review window, not a time zone you wish were true.

Immediate emails you can control

The same settings surface lets you enable or disable three per-event email categories:
  • Scout source notices — public-source changes such as ordinance changes, agenda additions, council-vote shifts, or opposition updates.
  • Comment mentions and replies — when a teammate or counsel mentions you, or replies in a thread you joined.
  • Counsel access events — when outside counsel opens a read-only Site Memo packet you shared.
These immediate messages are additional to the digest; they are for events where waiting for the next summary would be daft.

A sensible starting setup

For most underwriting teams:
  1. Keep the in-app inbox as the canonical record.
  2. Use a daily digest for ordinary monitoring activity.
  3. Turn on immediate Scout notices for the people responsible for live diligence.
  4. Turn on mention/reply emails for active reviewers.
  5. Turn on counsel-access emails for the owner of external sharing.
Save preferences after changing them. A setting that has not been saved is merely an aspiration.

If you are not receiving something expected

First check the notification category and digest frequency. Then check whether the site actually has armed monitoring rules and a recorded monitoring pass. No active rule means there is nothing to send; no matter how many times one refreshes a mailbox. For a Site Memo delivery question, check the report’s delivery state. A memo in citation review or quality review is not yet a released memo.
